The One World Media Awards, which recognise the best media coverage of the wider world, are for the first time looking to reward an outstanding piece of student media that tells a story from a developing country.
The Awards are presented by Jon Snow in a high-profile ceremony each year, and broadcast on BBC World News to a global audience of millions. After running for 23 years the One World
Media Awards ceremony represents a key date in the media calendar – and in 2011 they will take place on 10th May at Kings Place in London.
This year they are launching the Student Award, for the best piece of media produced as part of a media, journalism or documentary filmmaking course at a UK university or film school. Any medium can be submitted, so long as it tells a story from the developing world. The piece must have been submitted to the corresponding course between 13th Mar 2010 and 7th Feb 2011. A panel of senior industry professionals will choose the winner as well as two runners up.
More details can be found on the One World Media website: http://oneworldmedia.org.uk/awards/categories/#Cat12
The closing date is 7th February 2011.
