Second Light is new production based training scheme, devised by
First Light. It has targeting young people, aged 18-23 from diverse backgrounds, to give them supported opportunities to enter the film and moving image industries. There are 3 Second Light Delivery Partners supporting the trainees, one of which is Calling the Shots, in Bristol. In addition to working on productions, First Light are supporting trainees through placements, work shadowing, mentoring, networking and masterclasses. Current industry supporters include: BAFTA, The Pinewood Studios Group, EON Productions, Framestore and the Cultural Diversity Network.
The Second Light scheme is currently recruiting film and creative media professionals who can spare 2 hours a month until next March to be mentors. You will need to be available to attend an induction (5th June and 22nd June confirmed so far), with the added commitment to a follow up debrief for half a day a month later. Travel expenses will be reimbursed but this is voluntary opportunity.
For those unfamiliar with their work, First Light, is the UK’s leading initiative enabling young people to realise their potential via creative digital film and media projects. Funded through the UK Film Council and directly from the Department for Education (formerly the Department for Children, Families and Schools First Light administer over £5m each year, funding and facilitating young people’s creativity across the whole of the UK, giving them a voice and ensuring they are seen and heard. The films and media projects our young people create cover many topics and genres, and make use of today’s accessible digital technologies to tell their stories with them in control.
