Encounters Reminder - Call for Entries

encounterslogoSubmissions for this year’s Encounters International Film Festival are now open and run until Wednesday 30 June 2010.

Encounters International Film Festival is happy to announce that once again, in our bid to go green, we have teamed up with YouSendIt to offer digital submissions as well as traditional methods. It is the first festival in the UK to use the digital file delivery company YouSendIt.

Encounters Managing Director, Liz Harkman said, “I’m very pleased to be developing this partnership with YouSendIt and continue for a second year moving the festival forward by offering digital submissions. YouSendIt embedded into our website really does provide filmmakers with an easy and secure way to upload their films”.

“Many of our 12 million registered users hail from the creative community, trusting YouSendIt to quickly and easily share their work – a complicated task when dealing with large media files,” said Angela Sanfilippo, Director of Corporate Marketing, YouSendIt. “We are delighted to power digital submissions for the Encounters Film Festival, a renowned annual showcase for some of the world’s most talented creative professionals. It’s a great way to highlight the benefits that YouSendIt brings to filmmakers by making the submission process as fast and as easy as possible.”

In 2009 Encounters International Film Festival received 742 films via YouSendIt, just under 50% of the 1508 films submitted from over 55 countries. Liz Harkman concludes “I was totally overwhelmed by the positive response from the filmmakers, and this is a definite indication that we need to continue to offer digital uploads as part of our submission process. As home bandwidth increases it will become even easier for filmmakers to utilize this service and we are expecting a greater take up for year two. Hopefully one day all films will be submitted digitally.”

Submissions open 19 April and close on 30 June. This year sees the return of Animated Encounters and Brief Encounters as the two competitive strands. Films under 30 minutes of any genre are accepted, see the website www.encounters-festival.org.uk  for full terms and conditions.
