ENGAGE is a collaboration between four of Europe’s screen practice institutions – the Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy at Edinburgh Napier University, the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) at Dún Laoghaire (home to Ireland’s National Film School), the University of Art and Design Helsinki (TaiK, now known as Aalto University) and the Baltic Film and Media School at Tallinn University – with support from the MEDIA programme of the European Community.
ENGAGE is a MEDIA programme-funded training initiative for writers, directors and producers built upon one simple idea; to foster creative collaboration across borders. Running over a period of nine months, it offers a three-stage programme of workshops delivered by qualified staff and active industry professionals in Ireland, Estonia, Finland and Scotland.
The programme aims to offer a distinctive holistic approach to addressing the needs of film schools in smaller European countries, enhancing their capacity to stimulate, guide and supervise students in international exchanges and collaborations. Part of this approach is a keen focus on the development and commercialisation of skills necessary for the success of the creative producer/writer/director partnership.
ENGAGE puts an emphasis on three areas important to the creative screen industries in Europe – screenwriting for low budget, international film and TV drama; development and co-production for the European market; and production and distribution in the digital age.
ENGAGE offers networking events, pitching sessions, project surgeries and case studies to help participants gain a better understanding of international co-production processes and the nature of collaborative project development.
Further information about this training and development opportunity, open to current postgraduate and final-year undergraduate students of all European film schools as well as their recent graduates, is available from the following website:
