Two actresses are needed for the following parts:
Helen - Victoria's best friend. They are very close. She is brash, but funny and warm and Victoria's chief confidante. She gets on well with Ethan andshe is always spending time with them and whichever boyfriend she has at that time
Lilly - Wife of Adam, Ethan's best friend. She is quiet. Barely says anything but very firm and the perfect foil to Adam's outgoing temperament
We also have a host of other less visible peripheral parts that may suit someone talented looking for some initial screen exposure
SYNOPSIS
ABOUT HER is not a typical romantic comedy. It starts as most romantic stories do, Ethan and Victoria and a drunken flirt at a Christmas party
However after seven years of being together it lasts longer than most
Victoria is small with a huge personality and a penchant for handbags, sparkly things and more handbags.
Ethan on the other hand, is quieter, more thoughtful and concerned with making Victoria happy. If the saying ‘opposites attract’ apply to anyone it is these two
Then after a romantic holiday together, she dies.
Ethan finds Victoria dead. No warning. No chance to say Goodbye. She was gone
The first part of the story tracks them through their relationship, not only the highs and the laughter, but also the arguments. All of this is accompanied by an entourage of colourful, supporting characters.
Ethan goes to see her in the Chapel of Rest and makes a promise to ‘do the right thing’.
It takes him a while to work out what that ‘right thing’ is, but he decides it is to write a book about their lives together
The story goes through the soul-searching Ethan does to find the right words and how, having cut himself off from everyone, he goes about ‘dipping his toe in the pool of humanity’ again.
He also has to learn how to deal with his feelings of helplessness, whilst trying to retain some control over what is left of his life
Some of the relationship is told retrospectively as he shares ‘Victoria stories’ with others
The story goes on to the point of the book being published and how he gets there
The story generally is fully of witty, fast-moving conversation and a warmth based around friendship and support.
Oh and he has a rabbit who is his muse.
