Skillset Animation Showcase - tomorrow at The Vinyl Factory, London

Students from BSMA will be involved in Skillset Animation showcase in London tomorrow. Skillset is bringing the best of this year’s animation graduate talent to Soho in an event that combines a recruitment fair, industry presentations, professional advice and networking. The Skillset Animation Showcase, will feature the best animation work from Skillset’s nine accredited animation degree courses and a number of guest courses from Skillset Academies, with selected students presenting their work to industry guests. It will also feature leaders from the animation and games industry giving presentations and advice to lecturers.

Other activities will include:

·The BBC will present a student short film competition. 10 applicants will get a grant of £500 each to make a film. 6 of the student directors would then be selected to be mentored by top directors to make another 10 minute film for BBC broadcast.

·Imagine will also be announcing  their competition with Dolby for animators to produce an animation to music from the new Faithless album.  The winning animation will be used as the demo for all Acer laptops in Europe,  the winner will also get an Acer laptop and tickets to a premier of their animation in Leicester Square. 

·Imagine magazine will also be offering a free subscription to the magazine and a copy of the Imagine directory as a prize for the best work. 

·Adobe will be giving away a copy of CS5 in a prize draw for students at the afternoon seminars

·Musion are re-launching their Musion Academy and are looking for students to work with their 3D holographic system

·The Foundry will be giving away a copy of Mari- the new 3D paint and texturing tool developed at Weta

The Animation and VFX Showcase will take place at the Vinyl Factory, Poland St, Soho, London, on 8 July. Entry is free and limited to animation film and TV personnel only, but guests must register for the event.
